Billing update:
As of October 1st, 2026, Waves Sonography is transitioning to mixed billing.
Most patients will have an out of pocket cost (or gap fee). We can confirm your fee at the time of booking.
We are still delighted to provide bulk billed scans for children under 16 and those who hold a valid Health Care card and Pensioner Concession card.

We provide ultrasound-guided injections administered by your local GP ensuring precise and effective treatment for various joint and muscle conditions.
Please note - ultrasound-guided injections are privately billed and are not covered by Medicare.

Visit the welcoming reception desk at Banksia Medical and Health during our operating hours, located at Unit 3/2 James Street. Banksia’s professional staff will be delighted to assist you in person, ensuring you have all the information you need and securing a suitable appointment slot.
Over the Phone:
Call Banksia Medical and Health on (08) 9071 1511. Banksia’s friendly reception staff will assist you to schedule an appointment over the phone.
By Email:
Send a copy of the referral with correct contact details to referrals@waves-sonography.com.au. Once received, our team will initiate a phone call to confirm an appointment time.
BY FAX:
Fax a copy of the referral to (08) 9071 3995. This option is ideal for healthcare providers who need to send referrals securely and promptly.
Fees & Medicare rebates
As of October 1st, 2026, Waves Sonography is a mixed billing practice. This helps us continue providing thorough, personalised ultrasound care here in Esperance.
Most patients pay a private fee on the day of their appointment. Where a Medicare rebate applies, it reduces your final out-of-pocket cost. Fees vary by examination and we can tell you the expected out-of-pocket cost when you book.
We continue to bulk bill children under 16 and patients with a valid Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card for eligible scans.
Payment is due on the day of your appointment. We can process your Medicare claim at the time of payment where possible. Ultrasound-guided injections are not covered by Medicare.
If we received your referral or you booked your appointment before 1 October 2026, we will honour our previous bulk billing arrangements, even if your scan takes place after that date.
Patient Preparation
For some ultrasound tests, there are specific things you need to do before the procedure.

Abdomen
Abdominal ultrasounds require you to be fasted for 6 hours before your ultrasound appointment. Clear fluids may be taken over these hours along with any medications that you may ordinarily take.
Kidneys/Pelvis
A full bladder is required for assessment of the kidneys and pelvis. To achieve this first empty your bladder 1 hour before your appointment. Over the next half an hour drink 1 litre of water to be finished half an hour before your appointment time.
Obstetrics
Similar to kidney and pelvis ultrasounds a full bladder is required for obstetric assessments. Please follow the bladder preparation listed in the kidney and pelvis section for 1st and 2nd trimester ultrasounds, 3rd trimester ultrasounds do not require a full bladder.
